“Day five,” she thought in the shower. “Probably over by now.”
When she reached down, blood shot out. A hose let loose.
She screamed, tried to block it with both hands.
What is this?
She clutched her legs tight while something welled up inside, demanding exit.
She let go. A fountain of blood burst forth. What was happening?
The brown-tainted water spilled over.
With every spray of her blood, her mind thinned, her body crumbled—but the tub filled.
It stopped.
A sudden jerk in her gut bent her over. Her body convulsed, her head struck the tub.
Her legs spread, as if pried open from inside.
Something began coming out. A blood clot? No, something different. Bigger. It ripped her from within. It clawed. It tore.
She pushed–jaw clenched, veins swelling.
Finally, it popped.
It hit the water with a wet thud, then sank.
She held on to the rim, weak from exertion. Dazed.
The water bubbled, something was moving down there.
Suddenly, it rose to the surface, bobbing.
Big as a football, sleek as liver. No form. A mere shapeless mass of viscera, pulsating.
She stared, terrified. A rusted stench bit her nostrils.
It had come from her. The thought dismissed before the water began to drain—
—while the lump inflated.
It drank the water, slurping.
She recoiled, breath jagged, face racked with horror.
The blob began shifting.
Rearranging itself.
Reassembling.
It inched towards her.
Curled up, frozen, she watched.
The thing expanded, then seized her.
Swift, it wrapped itself around her legs, her arms, until it swallowed her whole. A famished cocoon.
All at once her screams stifled, deadened.
When it had finished taking possession, a taller, slicker, stronger version of her stepped from the shower.
She began getting ready for work.
